Maria Tonは、ベトナム系のルーツを持つノルウェー出身で、現在はブルックリンを拠点に活動するDJである。2021年にニューヨークへ移住したのち、彼女はすぐに現地の音楽コミュニティに深く溶け込み、セレクターや音楽制作者との関係を築いていった。
旧世代のNY音楽シーンを築いたパイオニアたちとの交流や、彼女自身が好むオールドスクールのハウスやテクノへの傾倒から、自然とDJミックスと音楽収集の世界へと足を踏み入れることとなった。ニューヨークに点在する優れたレコードショップを頻繁に巡り、黄金時代の秘蔵音源と、地元の無名アーティストによる現在進行形の作品を丹念に掘り起こしていったのである。
ジャズ、ヒップホップ、そしてハウス・ミュージックの豊かな歴史と多彩なサブジャンルが息づくこの多面的な都市において、音を聴き、サンプルし、創作のインスピレーションを得るための場が尽きることはなかった。
彼女はこれまで、さまざまな音楽コレクティヴに関わり、ニューヨーク市内の各所はもとより、国際的にも数多くの場でプレイしてきた。
昼間にはダウンテンポ、スポークンワード、ファンキー、ダブ、アンビエントといった穏やかな音を奏でる一方で、自らのラジオ局を持つ未来に思いを馳せている。そして夜になると、その音楽性は一変する。ハウス、テクノ、ミニマル、ダブ、ジャングル、エスニック・エレクトロニカ、ブレイクス、ファンクなどを縦横無尽に行き来しながら、フロアに一貫したグルーヴを刻みつつ、リスナーをエモーショナルな音の旅へと誘っている。

Maria Ton is a Brooklyn based DJ originally from Norway of Vietnamese roots. In 2021 she relocated to New York and shortly after immersed herself with the music makers and selectors within the community. Being around the NY pioneers from earlier generation of music era and her own preference gravitating to the likes of old school house and techno, she started learning to mix and collect music, frequently digging at all the great vinyl shops NY had to offer where much of the old but gold gems were found along with current unknown local productions, In this versatile city with a long history of house music, Jazz and hip hop amongst the sub genres, there was never a lack of outlets to listen, sample and draw inspiration from. She’s been involved with different music collectives through the years and played all over town and internationally. By day she plays downtempo, spoken word, funky, dub sounds and ambient at occasion, frequently daydreaming about her future radio station, while her night time sets transforms the dance floor weaving between house, techno, minimal, dub, jungle, ethnic electronica, breaks & funk keeping a consistent groove while taking listeners on an emotive journey of sound exploration.
